Anchorage at Sandy Lane

Overview

Anchorage is bright and airy and has excellent, quality furnishings throughout. The house has a security alarm and is linked to a 24-hour monitoring station.

Anchorage has a permanent housekeeper who is an excellent cook and who will take care of your every need six days a week (sadly, you have to fend for yourselves on Sundays). She will prepare breakfast and a light lunch (other meals by arrangement) as well as taking care of all the laundry, including personal items.

The spacious vaulted living room is a blend of old Barbados mahogany furniture and coral stone with the more modern bamboo. The security louver shutters, which open fully on the north and south sides, give the room the feeling of total openess as the view is of the luscious gardens to either side.

The marble dining table seats 12 and is ideal for formal entertaining. The 12 mahogany dining chairs and carvers have needlepoint seats, each of which is a different, very attractive, shell design.

There is a small TV room off the living room which can also be used as an office. The Direct TV channels provide CNN & BBC News, ESPN Sports, TNT and HBO and a variety of specialist programmes. The office area has a fax/printer and a broadband connection.

All bedrooms are fully air-conditioned. The large master bedroom, with its bright attractive fabrics has two twin beds with mattresses that zip together to make one very large double bed. It has its own double basin en-suite bathroom with a very large shower. The second bedroom can also be made up as a twin or double and has its own bathroom with bath/shower opposite. The third bedroom has its own en-suite bathroom with bath/shower and the beds can be made up as two singles or one double.

The large, covered outdoor patio overlooks the pool and it is where most guests relax when not by the pool enjoying the Barbados sun. At one end there is a dining area with a wrought iron table that comfortably seats six, and is ideal for breakfast, lunch and informal dining in the evenings.

At the other end is comfortable informal seating for eight and is the perfect setting for reading your novel out of the sun during the day, and the ideal meeting place for drinks prior to meals.

The house is located in the middle of its own manicured one acre/half a hectare gardens. The lush tropical planting give guests total privacy with quiet shaded areas where one can enjoy a book, or alternatively lie by the pool perfecting the sun tan on any one of the six loungers.

The property boasts 18 different species of palms including two rare varieties, which are of great interest amongst the locals.

Less than a 5-minute walk or a 2-minute drive away from Anchorage is one of the best beaches in Barbados, where the Sandy Lane Property Owners Private Beach Facility is located immediately adjacent to the famous Sandy Lane Hotel. Here there is a small private cabana, which houses a fridge for cold drinks, six beach loungers and four chairs. There are outdoor showers as well as toilet facilities. The Sandy Lane Hotel water sports facility is adjacent should you wish to water-ski or sail.
